The Volcano

When you first met me I was active
Passionate and full of life
I spurted out molten lava
And made the soils of your hills fertile
For you I brought forth and sustained life
You were drawn to me, respected me
You were awed by what I was
But now, I am quiet
And you have withdrawn from me
I am barren, dried up, cast aside
No passion flows from me
No molten lava or fiery ash
And you no longer respect me
I no longer awe you
You took the fertile ground
And tilled it until it would bear no more
Now I am nothing more to you
Than a sight that was once grand
I once produced, I once gave you value
I hope you will one day think of me
As the one who you once held in such high esteem
